The Big Chill – Why egg freezing may be our generation’s Pill

I spent a recent Thursday at a fertility clinic in New York City with a dozen other women. There was a free seminar on egg freezing, and I listened as a female physician described how a woman’s reproductive egg count will already be reduced by half by the time she reaches puberty.

The women in the room had presumably come for the same reason I had. We wanted to know our options. We didn’t make eye contact. We looked straight ahead. It was as if each of us knew the others’ biggest secret: we were single, aging and worried we might not be able to find a partner in time to get pregnant.
